HCG Level Increase: Clarification & Pregnancy Concerns - Expert Review
QuestionI realised I wrote 27.4.06. for my HCG level - it was actually 27.5.06. - I don't know whether you realised this although it sounds like you did. COuld you just let me know? I feel very reassured by what you've said but I don't want to be falsly reassured. Thank you very much for your prompt response.

I found out I was pregnant last Sunday, but on the Monday night I had a tiny amount of bleeding. I went to the doctors and she sent me to hospital as a precaution. They tested my hcg, and have done so twice since. The last reading, on 27.4.06., was 491 - I don't know the other ones. They have told me that it is rising but not doubling, and so they want to do an exploratory laporoscopy in case it is tubal. I feel fine and have had no more bleeding. I feel really confused - could this still be a viable pregnancy? I don't want a laporoscopy if it could affect the chances of a successful outcome. I am basically now avoiding the hospital because I am scared, confused and desperately want this baby. I am 33 years old and have had one previous successful pregnancy - my son is nearly three. Please help!
AnswerIf your last period started on April 21, you would have been 4 weeks 2 days on May 22. The HCG values at 4-5 weeks range from 1000 - 50000. A value of 27.530 is within normmal limits for that stage pregnancy. Sit tight for the next HCG value, or wait until six weeks from your last period and take a sonogram. It is common to spot in early pregnancy.
