Understanding Slow HCG Rise After IUI: What Does It Mean?

Question
I had an iui on February 19th. positive blood test on Mqrch 7 with hcg of 173 another hcg on March 9 of 308 and a third hcg on march 11 of 520....doc says this is not good?  I know my numbers are not doubling but they're not going down either...

Answer
The HCG levels usually double every two days starting from the seventh day after implantation. In your case it is not increasing at the pace it should. HCG is produced by the trophoblasts in the uterus after implantation . So a inadequate HCG means that there are some problems with the implantation or formation of the placenta. But it could also be entirely possible that both the embryo and the placenta are healthy and this less HCG is kind of incidental( Can happen sometimes). However there is no active intervention available with us in this case. The only approach advocated is a wait and watch policy with serial measurements of hcg.
