Heavy Bleeding & Potential Miscarriage: What to Know

Question
i normally have light light periods which last about three days...  I recently had a very heavy flow with lots of mucus and such. Having to change tampon every 45min to 1 hour could this mean i was pregnant and misscarrried?  How can you tell after the fact?  is there anything i need to do?

Answer
HI Jill,

it could mean pregnant and miscarried, but now you really may never know. Was there a chance you could have been pregnant? It happens more than people think and is not really a big thing...that sounds bad though doesnt it!  If you have already stopped bleeding I would assume everything is OK. There are other things that can cause heavy bleeding: hormonal changes, endometriosis, stress...

are you still bleeding? If you are you  might want to call your doctor and let them know; chances are it is nothing, just a weird heavy period, unexplainable... but if you are still bleeding the dr might want you to go in for an ultrasound, just to make sure.

good luck, I hope this has helped.
