Subchorionic Hematoma & Heavy Bleeding: A Pregnancy Update
QuestionI am 22 years old, i have 2 children, this is my 3rd pregnancy and the first day of my lmp was 7-12-04.
I have a subchorionic hematoma and have been bleeding since 8 weeks..it began as a gush..then turned to brown discharge (over a period of a few days...and has been on that cycle up until 12 weeks. I have heard the heartbeat with a doppler twice and the baby is growing very well. Today I have had a series of HUGE gushs of blood and i am saturating a pad in 1-2 hours..im not cramping and there are no clots.(before today i had no blood old or new in a 4 days) Is this regular hematoma behavior? i am 13 1/2 weeks and have never blead this much..my doc said that since the baby is growing so well, not to worry.please tell me what you think
AnswerUsually as "subchorionic hematoma" is formed while the placenta is developing and it will slowly evacuate without causing harm to the baby. It usually disappears by 15 weeks gestation. The bleeding that you suddenly had was probably due to the hematoma starting to come out (the brown discharge may not have been the entire hematoma). However, if you continue to have heavy bleeding, you have to have another sonotram to confirm that the bleeding is, indeed, due to the hematoma and does not have anything to do with the fetus, in order to rule out a miscarriage. I would call your obstetrician and tell him or her what is happening.
