Postpartum Bleeding & Back Pain After Induction: What to Expect

Question
I have my son December 4th and I'm still bleeding heavily.  And I'm also cramping in my back. I had to be induced so does this have anything to do with it?

Answer
Hi Tonya,

Since it's been about 4 weeks since the birth, I would not worry about the fact that you are bleeding. For some women (such as myself) the bleeding continues for 6 to 8 weeks, although it should be less in volume. You shouldn't be soaking any more pads.

If your bleeding is that heavy still, I would contact your OB GYN to see what's going on. Are you taking any type of birth control? Did you receive Depo (the shot)? Both of these can contribute to abnormal bleeding patterns and sometimes cramping. Being induced does not make a difference.

But only your doctor can get to the bottom of it.
