Heavy Menstrual Bleeding: Causes, When to Worry & What to Do

Question
I am 27 years old and I have 4 children and tues 22nd of august ( yesterday),  I just started my period (9 months after the birth of my son) and I am bleeding so heavy I have to change my super tampon every 45 minutes.  I have never bled like this even after my babys were first born, and I am very nervous.  How much blood is too much, and is that much bleeding a sign something is wrong.  Thank you for your time

Answer
Is this the first  period you had since the birth of your son? If you are changing your tampon every 45 minutes, it is, indeed, too much bleeding and you should call your doctor and have it evaluated. You may merely need some Methergine to contract down the uterus. However,if there is any retained products of placenta you may need a D&C to clean out the uterus. A sonogram may help show what is going on.
