QuestionSo I have a lot of questions... I'm 9weeks, my last period started around June 24th. Its always been irregular and I wasn't paying attention. My due date is April 1.
Several women on these message boards have mentioned having ultrasounds when they had thier pregnancy tests; I'm 9 weeks and am not scheduled for a sonogram till week 12. That is normal or at least ok isn't it?
My boyfriend has XYY and Keller-Segmueller (I may have the spelling wrong but that's what it sounds like). I've tried to google Keller-Segmueller, but have only found referances in Russian and German, which I don't read. My boyfriend has also been told by 3 specialists that his extra Y chromosome is totally mutable(they also told him he couldn't have kids). How much will this affect the baby, or will it?
Also all of the medical charts cover my medical history, but no one's asked about my boyfriends. Is that routine?
I'm using a clinic where RNs do all the real prenatal work, and the doctor pretty much just does deliveries. When should I meet the doctor, tour the hospital, talk about special requests and procedures.
Also, I have IBS and have found that warm baths help to ease my abdominal cramps. Should I consider water birth to ease the cramps from IBS so I can concentrate on labor? Is it still early for me to worry about this?
AnswerHi there Ivy ..
Are you sure that the syndrom your boyfriend has is not called .."klienfelters"? This disorder is directly associated with the chromone disorder your boyfriend carries. I made a few phone calls, about Keller-Mueller, and did find out there is a condition closely related, that is a form chronic bronchitis, however I dont think that relates in any way with your boyfriend at all.
Your boyfriend is basically carrying an extra sex chromosone. Some people beleive, that people with klienfelters , in the past, link this karyotype with aggresiveness, violent behavior and other social problems (.. scientists tried to prove that a significanltly greater population of male prison inmates had this these karytypes .... however, no one has ever conclusively shown it to be true).
On the other hand, some people say that people with klienfelters, are absolute genious's.
Again, nothing has been substantiated to this time, and is all heresay.
Also, males that carry the extra Y chromosone, are said to be very tall and thin. Many experience severe acne during adolescence. Additional symptoms may include antisocial or behavioral problems and learning disabilities. Intelligence is usually normal, although IQ, on average, is 10 to 15 points lower than siblings, and in other maybe unusually higher.
I dont personally beleive that your baby is in any immediate, or life threatening condition, not at all. However Ivy, I do beleive its crucial that you speak to your OB about this, and make him/her aware of the genetics that are coming into play here.
As for your sonogram dates, theres nothing unusual about the date your having it done. With my second baby, I never had one done till I was 14 weeks ..Different doctors will give sonograms to determine age of the fetus in the early stages, seems to me you know exactly how far along you are ..you are not having any complications, so really, it is not neccessary for you to have one right now ..(This is a good thing ..lol)
Now aside from the genetic aspect we discussed, You are the one carrying this baby. Right now, they are concerned about you, and your medical history. Just so they can get an idea of any unforseen issues in the future. certain things, will put women at higher risk for certain gestational issues. Again, its all just routine :) I am sure once the baby is born then you will find more so, they ask about the fathers history.
I dont know in what area you are from. I am in Canada, and here, at 12 weeks, ( once we get passed the crucial first trimester) we then visit an OB exclusively. I am sure the nurses you are seeing are great, and experienced at what they do. However, given that you have IBS ..and you have concern with, I would suggest that you see an OB. Also, its crucial to discuss pain management with your doctor for the labour, as well as express any concerns you may have. I definately think you should have a several meetings with a OB before your delivery.
Usually your birthplan is discussed come closer to your delivery date. Some ladies have it all planned out immediately upon finding out they are pregnant. Think about what you would like to do, and discuss it with your OB ..I discussed everything, and visted the hospital by the time I was 7 and a half months. You still have lots of time, but make sure you for your own peace of mind that you fullfill this plenty of time before your due date.
As for water birth. I laboured in a Jacuzzi, and it was wonderful. At this point, its so early and you may not even have an issue with IBS. Pregnancy is a remarkable thing, and people whom have disorders, syndroms, and diseases find major relief during pregnancy. Often, their symptoms disapear..and this could be possible with you :)
Its early to say right now if your IBS will be an issue with labour. However you certainly do have options, from labouring in water, to pain management, by use of epidural, and other pain releivers ..
Hope this was of some help to you, Good luck to you ..
