Brown Discharge & Early Pregnancy: What Could It Mean?
Questioni discovered brown spot discharge this morning and i went for my gynae immediately for a check. Actually I just went there for my first pregnancy test 3 days ago and was informed that i was 5 weeks 6 days pregnant after doing the sonogram. Today, we did the sonogram again(different machine) and the doctor said that he is not quite positive about the pregnancy now and believe that the size of baby is shrinking and it shows only a 4 weeks 1 day of size. We will do another sonogram by next week to confirm the situation.
My brown spot decreased now (almost none) in the afternoon. For your information, I do not feel any pain or any morning sickness thru out my pregnancy. I continue working and do my morning walk.
I was just wondering how accurate is the sonogram in telling the age of the baby? Is this brown discharge a certain symtom of miscarriage?
AnswerWhen was the first day of your last period? A sonogram is not very accurate until 12 weeks gestation. Prior to 6 weeks gestation (from your last period) a sonogram will usually only show an empty gestational sac but no fetal heartbeat. After 6 weeks, we can see (on sonogram) a fetus and a fetal heartbeat. In your case, I would repeat the sonogram in two weeks. Don't worry about minimal brown staining from the vagina. That is usually "old blood" tht is being pushed out of the uterus by the growing fetus. Be patient. If you start to have heavy bleeding with cramps, contact your doctor.
