Brown Discharge After Birth Control: Possible Pregnancy or Other Causes?

I'm 18..have no children, the date of my last period was August 3rd. I have had a brown discharge for almost a week now. It is in the middle of my pill cycle and has never happened before. also i was a day late last month when i am always on time. I have been on birth control(ortho tri-cyclen lo) for nearly 2 years with this never happening before. I have however, missed a few pills during the beginning of my packs both this pack and last. I should also say my discharge has been accompanied by mild cramps and is not heavy. I am wondering whether i might be pregnant or if this is a side effect of missing pills. please help.

If your last period started on August 3, and you are on birth control pills, you are not pregnant (even if you missed a few pills). If you have any doubt, if you miss your next period (on August 30) wait an additional week and take a pregnancy test. The brownish staiin may merely have been some "old blood" from your uterus from the previous cycle. If you miss a pill, take two the next day. If you miss two pills, take two the next day and two the day after. If you miss more than two pills, throw the pack away and start a new pack on the following Sunday.
