QuestionI was wondering what the chances of pregnancy woould be in this situation. My girlfriend had her last day of her period on November 20th. We had unprotected sex on the 25th of November but it was only for about five minutes, and I did not ejaculate. The sex occured after I had already ejaculated about one hour prior to having unprotected sex. I was just wondering what the chances are of her being pregnant, and what I signs might look for to see if she is.
AnswerDear Doug,
The most fertile day of a woman's cycle are the 11th-21st days (Day 1 being the 1st day of her period). So, if her period ended on 11/20, it probably started around 11/16. That would make 11/25 Day 10. Now - keep in mind that sperm cells can live about 5 days once past the cervix (opening into the uterus). And they are stubborn. They will stay active and alive as long as they remain wet, even on a hand or the penis. It's also good to remember that pre-ejaculate actually has a very high concentration of sperm cells. (FYI)
So, in your situation, you'll have to try to remember what occurred. If you cleaned up after ejaculating and before having intercourse, you may be fine as far as the actual ejaculate. However, as a rule, if you are aroused enough to have an erection, there is probably a little seepage of pre-ejaculate. So, during the actual intercourse, you can't rule out some release of sperm cells.
The main symptom (and surest) of pregnancy is a missed period. Other symptoms that CAN occur in early pregnancy include swollen and/or tender breasts, fatigue, nausea or morning sickness, headaches, and lower backache. Some women experience these symptoms and some don't. These secondary, hormone-related symptoms would not be a reliable way to determine pregnancy for sure.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. Please feel free to write again with any additional questions. I hope you both have a happy holiday season!
