Questionhi , my lmp was Sept 17th 2007, i think my date of conception was oct1 2007 . i took a hpt on oct 17th and it came out positive but the line was fairly faint. i went to the walk in clinic and had my blood taken. They informed me that my hcg level was 14 which was very low. i have no cramps or bleeding! Am i miscarrying? i am so worried! Is it possible that i concieved at a different time or that the lab made a mistake?
AnswerDear Crystal,
If your LMP was 9/17 and you have regular 28 day cycles, your expected ovulation/conception date would be 10/1 as you suspected. On 10/17, you would have been approximately 4 weeks, 2 days along. The normal hCG level for 4 weeks is between 5-426 mIU/ml. So, although low, there really is nothing to panic about quite yet.
I would suggest that you schedule your first prenatal visit for approximately 10/29 (next Monday). At that point you should be at 6 weeks according to LMP. Your OB doctor can then do an initial ultrasound to confirm that dating, confirm an intrauterine pregnancy, and also get another hCG level. By that time, your hCG should have risen to between 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml. I'd expect it to be closer to 1000 since it is starting on the lower side. And your ultrasound may actually put you a few days earlier than you think also - you just never know.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
