Understanding Low Amniotic Fluid at 18 Weeks: Symptoms & What to Expect
Questioni am 18 weeks pregnant and at my last scan 6 days ago i was told that the amniotic fluid is slightly below borderline. i am not leaking any fluid and i have been eating as normal throught with no vomiting or nausea. i've been referred to a specialist who i am to see in two weeks but i fear this may be too long. on the scan i had, baby seemed to be doing fine although not moving as much as expected. baby had a heart beat of 140 and seemed otherwise healthy, but the report said the bladder seemed empty and it did not fill up the whole 30mins i was there. so far no-one can tell me what i can do to increase the amniotic levels and help my baby live. prior to this preganncy i had a miscarriage, a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and difficulty in conceiving because i was not menstruating or ovulating. but i somehow conceived soon after i had decided to stop taking anything and just about decided not to try for a baby. i am 27years years old and healthy and the only medicine i am taking are vitamins. what are my baby's chances and how can i help ensure its survival
AnswerDear Isabel
The main source of amniotic fluid is the baby's urine and therefore, if no urine was collected at all in its bladder for 30 mins, it may be a correctable abnormality is present. However no one can tell except after examination by experienced sonographer. I suggest you get a second opinion 1 week after the original scan. A proper examination is a must for proper diagnosis.
Good luck
