HCG Levels Not Doubling: Understanding Early Pregnancy & Potential Concerns
QuestionMy LMP was 5/6/06,, my period was due on Friday, June 2, I was late and had positive hpt all weekend. Went for bloodwork 6/5/06 Monday and my level was 121. Went back Wed 6/07/06 and it did not double, only 145. The nurse told me to expect to start bleeding this weekend but they want to retest in a week to make sure. It is Saturday 6/10/06 and I have had no bleeding or cramping. I had a miscarriage last sept and I remember the awful bleeding and cramping. I just want to know if there are cases where the hcg doesn't double right away and it can result in a healthy pregnancy?
AnswerVery often, HCG will not double in very early pregnancy. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your cycle. You were due for your period on June 3, so the best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days later, or on June 9. Repeat two blood tests, 48 hours apart. If you do not miscarry, there is a good chance for a healthy pregnancy.
