Stimulant Laxatives During Pregnancy: Risks and Concerns

I am 8 months pregnant and have taken stimulant laxitives once a week. After doing some research, I discovered how dangerous that is for the unborn baby. Is there any harm I should be aware of to the baby already? Am i in still in danger of causing early contractions? I am deeply concerned and regretful now that i am aware the severity of the drug use.

Dear Megan,

I recommend that you should talk to your OB/GYN about this issue.  I can only answer the part of your question regarding early contractions.  If you stopped taking the medicine (which you should), and drink enough water to keep yourself well-hydrated, you should not experience early contractions.  To stay regular you can have prune juice or eat prunes with oatmeal in the morning.
