Tampon & Pad Hygiene: Frequency, Risks & Healthier Alternatives

Question
Hi,

How often should a tampon be changed?  I've heard every 2 hours.  Is that correct?

Also, do you know of any harms of using tampons and pads.  I've heard of organic tampons and re-usable pads..can those reduce any possible health risks if any are associated with tampon and pad use?

Thanks in advance

Answer
You should change a tampon every 2-3 hours, however most women don't.  One major concern wait tampons is what is called TSS aka Toxic Shock Syndrome.  You can get this fromt he chemicals used in tampons that is why you should change them so often.  The best tampons and pads to use are the unscented ones.  The purfumes can cause allergic reactions and more damage then thought about.
