Paternity Concerns: Understanding Potential Fatherhood Claims

My ex and I split up in september. She was dating another person from then until November 30, 2008. We met up and slept together December 2, 2008. Then we went our seperate ways. She ended up pregnant. The baby was born August 10,2009. She is back with the guy she was dating. Is there anyway the child could be mine? She had a period November 10, 2008.

Dear Bubba,

If her LMP (last menstrual period) was 11/10/08 and she has a history of regular periods, then I would calculate the estimated date of conception to be on/around 11/24-25/08. This would given her a due date of 8/17/09 and would have made her approximately one week early when she delivered the baby on 8/10 (which is not at all unusual). The difficult thing about your situation is that there is only a 7-8 day window. So... if you are certain that she had the period on 11/10 and had regular 28 day periods, I would not be overly concerned about the baby being yours. However, if you are concerned that she may have had a period one week later in Nov. and/or that her periods were irregular or were longer in length than 28 days, then there MAY be cause for concern.
