Understanding Ultrasound Findings: Twin Pregnancy & Empty Sac Concerns
QuestionHi there, i had an ultrasound done at 11 weeks and they found 2 sacs 1 empty and 1 baby growing fine, however the empty sac is on top of the baby and is still growing and pushing down on the baby. also they couldnt find the placenta withing the sac with the baby, the placenta was only in the empty sac? they were confused please try to explain thanks heaps
AnswerDear Lilian
There is no explanation in such case other than wait and see policy. However, the absence of the placenta in the growing baby's sac might be related to the overlapping position of the 2 sacs preventing visulaizing all the details of the sac with the baby or to the lack of experience of the sonographer.
I suggest a repeat scan in 2 weeks. By this time the placenta should be completely developed and the position of the sac would change allowing better visulaization.
Good Luck
