Postpartum Bleeding: What to Expect After Childbirth

Question
i had my fourth child on march 15 had bleeding for 6 weeks after that . then 1 week and a half of no bleeding . then i had starting bleeding again and haven't stoped. is this normal for a first peroid.

Answer
Normal lochia, or postpartum bleeding, can last as long as 8-12 weeks and is very, very sensitive to your activity levels.  If the recent bleeding appeared after you began doing something you weren't before (exercising, going to work, etc.), that could have caused your lochia to return even though it had stopped for a while.  If your bleeding has been scant, try resting for a few days to see if it stops.  If it doesn't stop soon, or if it has been heavier, definitely see your doctor again to get it checked out.
