Postpartum Lateral Thigh Trainer Use: Safety & Recovery

Question
Hi before my daugher was born (and during the first half of being pregnant) I was frequently cycling and using my LTT (lateral thigh trainer).  My daugher is now 13 wks old and I have been walking since aboout 2wks, cycling for a few weeks now but have not yet tried the stepper.  Is it safe to use now?  Im not sure if it would do anything detrimental to my pelvis?  I had a planned section and have bounced back very quick.
Thanks
Tammy

Answer
Congratulations on keeping fit during your pregnancy. One of the many benefits is bouncing back quickly, which you are doing, especially considering that you had a "C".

It is possible that the ligaments of your pelvis might be stressed using a lateral thigh trainer at 13 weeks postpartum. But since you  are fit and know how to use the device well, it also might be OK.

I suggest that you start with an easy routine, about half of what you were used to doing in the first half of pregnancy, and see if you experience any joint discomfort. Keep you range of motion slightly smaller than usual to provide extra protection to your ligaments and joints. (If you experience any stress on your sacroiliac or pubis while exercising, stop immediately.)

Wait a day or two to see if you have any delayed onset joint soreness. If not, then continue using the trainer, slowly building up the intensity of your workout. Always concentrate on great form, and control. Never use momentum, or get help from the force of gravity.
