Diastasis Recti After Pregnancy: Causes, Solutions & Expert Advice

Question
Hi Helene,

I had my son 4 years ago, very large baby 11 pounds via c section, I am only 5 ft 4 inches.  I managed to shed my weight  and most of my belly.  I had my daughter 22 months ago again via c -section she weight 9.5 pounds.  Since having my daughter I have not been able to get rid of my mummy tummy.  I was referred by my GP to a Consultant who agreed that the diastasis runs from top to bottom and is quite a gap.  I know that you have previously advised someone regarding a similar problem and reference was made to a DVD, how can I get hold of this?  Is it possible to repair a diastasis such as mine?  Also can you give me any information regarding surgery i.e. risks involved, the procedure and recovery period?  I obviously do not wish to put myself at any risk and cannot have months of bed rest.  Many thanks for your time.  Nasia

Answer
Many women, both with and without diastasis, end up will large, overly round, "still pregnant looking" abdomens. Abdominal recovery from c-sections and really big babies like yours do take a little more time, and it sounds like you might have made only a partial recovery from your first pregnancy.

My program will definitely flatten and tone your tummy. Most women can close the gap at least part way, to two finger-widths or less, which is the goal of diastasis rehab. (Everyone's mid line is wider after pregnancy than before.)
