Postpartum Period: Understanding Delayed Menstruation & Vaginal Discharge

Question
I am 26 years old and I have an 8 month baby girl. My question is basically ever since I delivered my baby I haven't had my period. I have gone to the doctor and he has checked this (by USG and internally) and concluded that there was nothing wrong with me. Actually, at that time I went to the doctor to complain about the vaginal discharge I was having (still having, actually) consisting of a yellow/brownish substance. He said it was normal and it was just unbalanced hormones. He prescribed something and after I consumed the medicine (actually I think they were vitamins) I had my period that month (the time I consumed the vitamins which was in November), but afterwards (until now) it never came again. FYI, my daughter was born in June.
I told my friend about this and she said she experienced the same thing. In her case, she began having her period after she stopped breastfeeding for 2 years. So after 2 years she began her menstruation. Is it possible that I haven't been had my period because I'm still breastfeeding? Please let me know what is wrong with me. Thanks a lot in advance.

Answer
Usually, if you are breastfeeding, you will not get your period until you stop and sometimes you will not get your period for up to a year after you stop nursing. Your doctor probably gave you Provera to induce your period in November. I would suggest that you call him again and ask to have it started for you again, using Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days. Provera is not a vitamin. It is a form of progesterone. Don't worry.
