Marginal Placenta Previa: Risks, Delivery & C-Section Considerations

Question
I am 37 weeks pregnant and found out at 28 weeks that I have placenta previa ,I was told that I would have to have a C-Section.
At my last dr visit I was told it was marginal and that I would deliver on my own.I have not had any bleeding or discomfort.I am worried about what could happen if I deliver on my own,Should I have a C-Section?

Answer
Dear Treena

A marginalis posterior placenta previa is better delivered by CS. This is because during labor, the uterine contractions will compress the placenta on the posterior wall of your uterus against the spine therefore, decreasing the blood supply to the baby during contractions which may not be suitable for the baby. On the other side, anterior placenta does not have this rish as there is no spine anteriorly to compress against it, and that's why many obs will allow a vaginal delivery.

It is important therefore to know if it is marginalis posterior or anterior to be aware of your choices and you should also be aware that a Cesarean would be the option if bleeding/hemorrhage occurs at any time from now and till delivery.

I hope these info will help you and wish you best of luck.
