Understanding Placenta Grade III at 30 Weeks: What to Expect
QuestionHi. I had an ultrasound yesterday and at 30 weeks my placenta was found to be already grade III. I'm not sure if I should be worried. The estimated fetal weight is only 2lbs 5oz. I don't understand why my placenta is already grade III at such an early time.
AnswerMost likely, there will be no problems. However, I would start serial non-stress tests (weekly) to assess the fetus. A Grade III placenta means that the placenta is maturing rapidly. The only problem is that if the pllacenta matures too rapidly, it can separate. There is a large window of safety. Just keep an eye on it.
