QuestionI am pregnant due on Feb 10th according to an ultrasound when I was about 6 weeks. My periods are messed up so they couldn't go by them. I was with my boyfriend alot around that time but I was with a different guy on May 25th. Does the ultrasound date go back 2 weeks from when I conceived or not? Because I heard you're not actually pregnant the first 2 weeks that your body is preparing to get pregnant..So what's the chance that it's my boyfriends child?
AnswerDear Trish,
I do apologize for the delay in answering your question. My son was T-boned in a wreck last week. I forgot all about coming back online for these questions... I'm sorry for that.
Early ultrasounds are quite accurate in dating pregnancies. As time has passed and we have been able to visualize more and more pregnancies through the years, we have come to know that pregnancies develop at pretty constant rates for the first 12 weeks. We know that at a certain week, the measurement of the gestational sac and/or embryo should be at a certain point to within a few cms. We also know that at a certain point we should be able to visualize certain things. For instance, at 5 weeks we should be able to see a yolk sac and a 6-7 weeks we can typically see heart activity. Now, after the 1st trimester, babies can begin to grow at different rates due to varying factors - maternal health or lifestyle, uterine conditions, etc,...
According to the information you gave me (6 week ultrasound indicating due date of 2/10), the likely conception date would be on/about 5/20.
The two weeks that you are referring to is a bit confusing to people... It is simply about calculation. Pregnancy calculation is done based on LMP but pregnancy (actual conception) happens at ovulation, which is approximately 14 days into a typical 28 day cycle. This is where the two weeks comes into play.
I hope this information has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well and a blessed delivery!
