Early Pregnancy Concerns: HCG Levels & Ultrasound Results

Question
hi,

im suppose to be 6 weeks pregnant (from my calculations of my missed period which was on feb 2 of this year.) i had blood work done last tues and they measured my hcg levels at 2,000. today i had a sono gram and she told me she didnt see anything. usually the heart, lungs & other organs should be forming by now but she saw nothing. im very worried that something is wrong. i cant stop stressing and wanted to know whats going on. shouldnt something have shown up on there by now or did i miscalculate? i am pregnant because of the positive blood test and hcg hormone which only pregnant women produce. please help me discover whats wrong.

Answer
By six weeks one can only see the foetal cardiac activity, and that too in some women this may only be visible only around 8 weeks. Therefore there is nothing to worry. When my wife was pregnant, although the HPT and blood HCG were positive the USG did not show the cardiac activity until eight weeks and I did the sonogram myself and I am a pretty experienced sonologist. So these things happen and there is no point in fretting. So I will advice you to relax and you should just be fine. Also remember that it takes up to 12 weeks for all organs to fully develop.
