Navigating Pregnancy After Loss: A Patient's Story & Concerns
QuestionI am 26 I have no children but this is my 5 pregnancy. My first one I was 16 when I got pregnant, the baby did not have kidneys so I had to induce labor. He was born lived for one hour and past away. I then had 2 miscarriages and one tubal where they had to remove my right tube. I am now 36 1/2 weeks along with this pregnancy. I have had some bloody show a lot of contractions but most of them are in my back. My doc did a growth U/S in Feb and the baby was measuring 3 weeks farther along than what he thought but he will not change the due date nor will he do another growth U/S. I have told him about the bloody show and the contractions but he has not even checked me to see if I have dialated at all. He told me that I am way to early to go into labor. How do I get my doc to listen to me? Should he have checked me by now? Could I be in the early stages of labor at 36 1/2 weeks along?
Please any answers you can help with me with is appreciated. I am very confused and frustrated with my doc and I need to know if I have the right to be. thank you
AnswerAt 36 weeks, a sonoogram is not very accurate in determining how far pregnant you are. When yuo get close to 40 weeks preganancy, you will start to have contractions . When you start to have contractions at the level of your belly button (not in your back) that occur every 3 minutes and last for a full minute, and this goes on for a full hour, you should be checked to see if your cervix is starting to open. There is no reason to check you unless you are having contractions every 3 minutes, from the beginning of one contraction to the beginning of the next contraction. Your doctor is following zccepted protocols.
