QuestionHi Brenda
My last period started on 3/17/09, and I had a HSG done on 3/24/09, IUI was on 3/30/09. Blood test on 4/12/09 HCG was 177 and progesterone was 48.9.
My questions are:
1) Is it too soon to have the IUI 1 week after the HSG? the residue from the HSG will have bad effect on the fertilised egg?
2) the HCG and progesterone levels are good enough?
3) I am planning to travel 16 hours to my home country with my 1.5 years old son,he is still learning walking, so I have to hold him a lot. Stay there for a week and then travel back 16 hours direct flight to US. Is that safe for me?
4) I heard that in the past years, the dentist used mercury as a materials in tooth filling. I had my 2 premolars filled with "silver" like fillings. The articles said it is very dangerous to the fetus as every time we brush our teeth, the mercury is released, and if we accidentally swallow the salyvia or the water, this will cause permanent damage to the fetus such as brain damage. We should even avoid direct face to face talking to babies as the mercury vapour is filled in our mouth. Is that truth? I had the pre-molar filled with silver fillings about 10 years ago in Hong Kong.
Can I have it removed by dentist? or doing so will only cause more problems?
Pls give me some advices.
Thanks
AnswerDear Jennifer,
OK - I'll answer your questions as you have asked them to try to make it simpler...
1. It's perfectly fine and happens often that HSG and IUI are done in the same cycle. HSG is thought to improve fertility issues for women whose tubes are not found to be blocked - likely by flushing out the "junk" that has accumulated in them with the dye so that they are nice and clean for a fertilized egg to pass through.
2. hCG and progesterone levels sound great!
3. I don't know what your pregnancy history is, so I cannot make an adequate determination about whether you should travel that long of a distance. This is definitely something you should be discussing with your OB/GYN.
4. These "warnings" are VERY over-dramatized. Think about it - if those claims were true, with as many mercury fillings as were performed, babies would have been dropping like flies all over the place!! Please do no worry over much about this! If you have very grave concerns, talk to your American dentist and ask about the actual facts regarding this and what his/her recommendation would be specific to YOUR number of fillings.
I hope this has helped you and answered your questions. I wish you well and congratulations!
