Hi
I am 48,5'7",230 pounds. No medical issues. I exercise regularly and try to keep my calorie count low.
I always thought I had a slow meatabolism, although my thyroid tests are good.
I have always had a sweet tooth, but after not eating anything sweet in the last couple weeks,I have lost two pounds! To me this is incredible.
Any thoughts?
Melissa,I can go without the bread but I have to have potatoes(I'm part Irish;-).What can I substitute?
Merry Xnas!

Answer
Barry,
The effect of cutting sugar and white starches that are broken down into sugar after about 2 seconds in the stomach has to be seen to be believed. When you have some time to spare, take a trip to the grocery and spend some time reading labels-for a lot of foods, the sugar content varies considerably between brands (start with yogurt and tomato sauce).
The healthiest mashed potato replacement is mashed cauliflower, but it doesn't really taste the same. For hash browns, I like to grate some yellow summer squash. For the best potato flavor, though, with less than half the carbs and sugar of a potato, I direct you to the vegetable that has saved the life of many a starving Irishman-the turnip.
