QuestionHi My fiance and I are getting married in 6 months and by next October we want to start trying to have a family. I know it seems so soon after the wedding but we've been together for 7 years and living together for 2 year. We both want children really badly but we want to wait till were married before we try. Since we want to try in 11 month i was thinking i should start prepairing my body for it? Is it too soon to start doing that? If not what should i be doing? I was looking into viatmin but i think its to early to be taking vitamins yet.Should i book a appointment with a doctor? I dont want to be jumping the gun but i want to make sure my body is prepaired and that we will concieve quick and have a healthy baby. Any advice would be wonderful! Thank you
AnswerGreat idea! Maternal health and fetal health are one in the same so to optimize your future pregnancy, start improving your health now.
If you are not exercising regularly, START! Aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate level aerobic exercise, like fitness walking, on most days of the week.
Improve your diet. Add more fresh fruits and veggies, legumes, whole grains, and lean protein sources. Cut back on red meats and processed meats if you eat these regularly. Avoid ALL fast foods: high fats/high sugar/high salt and junk foods, including fake sugars.
And yes, start prenatal vitamins, as a deficit in folic acid is associated with birth defects that occur in the first few weeks of gestation.
If you menstruate regularly, and have no health issues, then no need to consult with a doctor at this point.
