QuestionQUESTION: make a long story short,I was seen on Monday, uterus pain very tender, lower back pain, slight contractions on and off. Sxs went away. Continued with abnormal, irregular contractions, on wed was having more uterus pain, lower back pain, slight pink bleeding. ammonic test done and negative, ultrasound done showed black spot on opposite side of cervix, they not sure where blood coming from but was sent home, having a baby boy, and that nothing was wrong? They told me that i am experncing bladder spasms, or muscle pains, i really feel as though i am having contractions for the last five or so days and they are increasing in length and severity. I am a LPN and i really feel like something more serious is wrong and this is my third child and i feel like they dont believe i am having contractions at home. I feel like i am maybe not being believed but feel that something else could be going on. I was hoping you could maybe help me out a little bit. Thanks alot so much for your time.
ANSWER: Hi Tiffaney
Congratulations on your little boy!
I think the most important thing is to trust your instincts. If a follow up appointment hasn't been booked then you need to go back & see somebody, maybe a different doctor. You don't say how many weeks pregnant you are, but knowing the sex you are probably well into your 2nd trimester.
Most women bleed at some point in their pregnancy, but accompanied with the symptoms you have it's concerning.I'm not sure how things work in the U.S, but in the UK they would do a series of tests. During the scan they should have checked that your placenta is intact, is located high & away from the cervix. One of the common causes of bleeding is when the placenta starts to come away from the uterine wall (placenta praevia or placental abrubtion). This can happen if the placenta is low lying also. They will also check the progress & development of your child.
They should have checked you for cervical changes & dilation, & took some swabs. Infections are common during pregnancy & can lead to uterine contractions if left untreated. If you were suffering from contractions they should also have put you on a monitor to see if there's a pattern.
If there's something here that they did not carry out, then it may worth asking why they didn't & if they can do this.
If all came out normal then they should at least monitor you with a couple of follow-up appointments to make sure everything is progressing well.
I'm not a doctor or medically qualified, but I am well researched and had a similar problem with my pregnancy.
In the meantime if your bleeding &/or contractions get worse, get to the ER straight away.
I hope this has helped & wish you the best of luck.
Kindest Regards
Sarah

QUESTION: Hi thanks for your response. I wanna be honest wit you. I did experience these things and I ended up hemmoraging and almost losing my life in the ambulance. Our little boy was born alive, and we buried him last week. I did go in many times me and my husband and we just never got proper care, and ended up in a tradegy. Thank you so much, we were just curious if someone would of known what was wrong with me, and they had me in the office and er 5 times with all the symptoms. We have a case and the only thing that is holding us up is if they had noticed and thought placent abruption from day one instead of a week later would of the outcome be different. I just wanted to see if someone would of thought placental abruption like they should of. Thanks alot and i am sorry to hear you had a bad experience with your pregnancy
AnswerHi Tiffaney.
I'm so sorry to hear of what you have been through. I would certainly say that you were not treated as you should have been. The dark area on the scan indicated that something wasn't right & you should have been monitered regularly.
Unfortunately mild placental abruption can remain hidden before the placenta starts to break away quickly. Once it starts there's not a lot that can be done & it's a case of taking it easy & trying to make it to a reasonable point in pregnancy until the baby can be delivered safely.
I will re-iteate that I'm not medically qualified, but I have spent the last few years studying & researching various problems which can lead to miscarriage.
If it's any comfort, you should receive specialist care during your next pregnancy as you have had previous problems. If you don't....demand it!
There's an excellent page about placental abruption here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Placental_abruption
I wish you all the best & I'm happy to have helped.
Kindest Regards
