Understanding Miscarriage & Post-D&C Care: A Patient's Experience
QuestionOn July 10th I went for my normal monthly checkup (I was 11 wks pregnant) My Dr. did a sonogram and I found out our baby had no heartbeat and was only measuring 8 weeks. My Dr. suggested doing a D and C the following Monday, July 13. She did the D and C and I bled for about 2 1/2 weeks. On July 23 I went back in and they did another sonogram. Come to find out the left some tissue. She prescibed Cytotek for 3 days. I took them and still was spotting and cramping lightly though. Finally, on Aug 12 I got my period. I went back for my checkup on Aug 13 and again they did another sonogram to be sure all the tissue was gone. Turns out I still have more tissue. MY bleeding from my period is very light right now, but I am cramping pretty bad (worse than actual period cramps) I have to go back this Monday for another sonogram and if there is still tissue she wants to do another D and C. I am REALLY wanting to move on and try to get pregnant again ASAP.
My question is is this normal? Will 2 D and C in about one month cause damage to my uterus? I am confused about this. Everyone else I know that has gone through this has had nothing like this.
Thanks so much for taking the time to help me in advance!!
Carly
AnswerCarly,
Having 2 D&C operations in one month is much safer than leaving the tissue behind in your uterus. Any operation isn't without risks, but tissue left in the womb can cause some very nasty infections which in the long run can cause endless complications. It is not the norm for tissue to be left in the uterus, but it isn't completely unheard of. Once the remainder of the tissue has been removed there is no reason why you can not then go on to trying for another pregnancy. If the pain gets any worse before your scheduled appointment then I would strongly advise that you see a doctor as pain can indicate the onset of an infection.
I hope that things get resolved quickly for you, and you have a healthy pregnancy very soon.
Kind regards,
Christine
