QuestionHi, I had a miscarriage 3 weeks ago at 10 weeks pregnant. I took an ovulation test 1 week ago, it said I was ovulating so my husband and I had intercourse. Now, one week later I took a pregnancy test as a baseline to make sure I was not showing pregnant from my last pregnancy so when I test for this new pregnancy I can be reassured it's not a false positive, but the test showed I was pregnant. Could I have ovulated with the HCG still in my system from the last pregnancy? Also, I had some light bleeding yesterday. I haven't had any bleeding after the miscarriage stopped and the bleeding was only for a short time so I'm not sure if this is typical for a miscarriage or if this could be implantation bleeding. Please help!
AnswerSarah,
My best advice to you is to speak with a doctor. It is possible to get pregnant immediately after a miscarriage, however I would not expect a HPT to read positive just 1 week after intercourse. I started ovulating in the time between the foetal heart stopping and the D&C operation - when my hCG levels were still high.
There is no typical pattern of bleeding with ladies who have been through a miscarriage, some bleed heavily and then the cycles return to normal, others have months of irregular bleeds before the cycles return.
You may need a scan, but a doctor will be able to tell you if your positive test is due to a new pregnancy, or your previous pregnancy.
I am very sorry about your miscarriage, and now this confusion. I wish you and your husband good luck for a happy and healthy pregnancy.
