Miscarriage Symptoms: What to Watch For & When to Seek Help

Question
Please could you tell me the symptoms of a miscarriage as i think i may have had one. i am 10 weeks pregnant and i am bleeding alot and i am getting really bad cramps and my morning sickness has suddenly stopped.

Answer
Karina,

My best advice to you would be to consult your early pregnancy unit, your GP could put you in touch with them, or your midwife. Bleeding in early pregnancy is not uncommon, but you say it is a lot and this should be investigated. Morning sickness also has a tendancy to just disappear in a healthy pregnancy, and this alone is not cause for concern. I think having the 3 symptoms it would be best for you to be checked. The hospital can arrange for blood tests to see if your hCG levels are increasing or decreasing, and they may also do a scan as you are 10 weeks.

I dont think it would be appropriate for me to put in the signs and symptoms of a miscarriage, as many of them could be caused by something else, completely healthy in pregnancy and could cause unnecessary worries to yourself, and to readers who may see this question in the future. Any amount of bleeding, or pain which becomes increasingly uncomfortable should be discussed with your midwife.

Good luck Karina, and I hope you get some good news.

Kind regards,

Christine
