QuestionQUESTION: Hi, Brigid,
My husband and I just started doing NFP. I'm currently on cycle day 24 in my 3rd month of charting. (My shortest cycle so far has been 26 days, longest 28.) I know that when you're pregnant, your temperature "stays high". How soon can you determine a pregnancy? In my previous two months, in phase three, my temps stayed relatively steady, maybe a change of +/- 0.1, then dropping way down the day before my period. This month, my temperature has increased steadily over the last three days: 0.2, 0.1, 0.2. My husband and I are pretty sure we hit the timing right to achieve a pregnancy. I am, of course, going crazy waiting for it be long enough to take a home pregnancy test, but I thought NFP charting could tell you were pregnant sooner than the test could. Is true? Could I be pregnant?
ANSWER: I would say that you are pregnant! But patience, dear. Since the temps are going steadily up, that is pretty clear from my perspective. Let me know in 2-3 days. Congratulations.

QUESTION: LOL, I thought that patience was a virtue that I possessed, but obviously not when it concerns this. :) My temperature went down by 0.1 this morning. Is that a bad sign?
AnswerHmm. I think you should go shopping for a couple of days, take your mind of your thermometer! What will be will be.
With only 3 months of charts under your belt, you don't have enough "history" to know anything for certain. It could be a normal decline in an upward trend or it could be a normal decline in a downward non-pregnant trend.
Keep working on that virtue! You will know soon enough one way or the other! Have fun.
