Understanding Low AST/ALT Levels in Type 2 Diabetes
QuestionI am a Type II diabetic and have been taking Glyburid/Met and Actos medication. My last blood test showed that my AST/GOT reading was only 10.
Everything I read talks about when the reading is ABOVE normal, not below. What does this mean when the reading is BELOW normal? I understand this has something to do with my liver. Five months ago the reading was 15 in the normal range, now it is only 10. Also my red blood cell counts are a little low (3.65), hemoglobin 11.1, hematocrit NCT is 34.4 and MCHC is 32.3. This indicates anemia. I can't get into my doctor until Wednesday, but an anxious to have an idea of what is going on. I have been tired all the time and have trouble with tendonitis in my heel and rotater cuffs. My doctor has me on thyroid because my last test indicated it was underactive, but it does not seem to help the fatigue/lack of energy and my obesity.
AnswerBirdena,
The anemia is probably due to your underactive thyroid. The fatigue might be partly due to the anemia and partly due to your thyroid condition. Once your thyroid levels are stabilized, you should notice an increase in energy. As for the AST/GOT reading, I'm not really sure what's going on. I don't know if the drugs you are taking having anything to do with it or not. I'm somewhat curious as to what explanation your doctor will have. If you have time, let me know what he/she says.
