Question -
I have a history for 1 year now of elevated calcium of 10.4-11.9. No physician has seem worried or further tested. Should I be worried or further evaluate this?
Answer -
Hi Donna,
Before I answer your questions I was hoping you could give me a little more information. Do you have any symptoms other than the raised calcium levels? How was it that the elevated calcium levels were discovered? Was it a routine blood test or an investigation related to symptoms?
Thanks,
Sam
AnswerHi Donna,
Thanks for your answers. Firstly, elevated calcium levels are not normal. The reference range for calcium is 8.7-10.4 mg/dL, so your levels are slightly elevated. There are several causes of hypercalcemia and such a finding does require further investiagation. You should discuss what could be causing this finding with your doctor - be firm, you have a legitimate concern.
I hope this helps - if you have further questions please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Best wishes,
Sam
