Understanding Low TSH Levels: What Do Your Thyroid Test Results Mean?

I had blood tested recently at my yearly visit.  I got the results back and am not sure what the TSH number means.  It says normal TSH results are from 0.4 to 4.00.  My test result was 0.30. Is this low?  I am on Synthroid 0.1mg already.  Hard to get ahold of my doctor so I thought I would pass it by you while I am trying.  Thanks.

Hi Micki.  Yes, your TSH is slightly low.  But this may be "normal" for you.  Does your doctor check your TSH often?  He or she is probably checking it to see if your dose of Synthroid needs adjusting.  Your low TSH this time could mean that you may need to increase or decrease the dose.  This is common when taking Synthroid.  Check with your doctor (keep trying!).
