QuestionI just got my blood test results back from my doctor. My qualitative was negative, but my quantitative was 5.3. I didn't have a chance to speak with the doc, only the front desk woman. What do these results tell you? Am I actually pg? Isn't anything over 5 a positive result? I am not taking any medication, I am healthy and active, and young, 20. She is making me wait a week to test again. What do you think, am I pregnant? Thanks.
AnswerDear Sarah
The information you provided me is lacking your last menstrual period which is essential to consider with hCG level. Generally speaking, levels higher than 5 are suspecious but does not necessarily means you are pregnant. There is a wide variations; for example at 4 weeks gestations, the range is between 1000-56000.
A repeat test in 1 week or better a vaginal ultrasound at 5 weeks would be a better option to confirm whether you are pregnant or not.
Best of Luck
