QuestionHello,
I called the dr's to schedule an appt, I gave the nurse my symptoms over the phone. I told her I have had UTI's before and this defintely feels like one. So she prescribed me a 3 day treatment but asked that I stop by the lab to do a urine test. 2 days later I received several messages from the dr's. I thought they were just calling to tell me to check my results online, which said if i kept feeling pain after my meds to come in. But I must have misunderstood their lingo. So if you could please tell me what my results mean? I would greatly appreciate it:
I had 4 items flagged as "abnormal"
1. My urine was hazy instead of yellow
2. I had a "Trace" of LEUKOCYTE ESTERASE, UA]
3. My value for WBC's, UA/HPF was 5-10, and they said normal value was 0-4 (yikes whatever that means)
4.I had a "Trace" of Bacteria, urine HPF
Am I going to be okay?
AnswerHi Rebecca. Yes, you're certainly going to be okay! The urinalysis results you provided me with are kinda borderline as to whether or not you have (or had) a UTI. Leukocyte esterase and WBC/HPF refer to the amount of WBCs (white blood cells) in your urine. "Trace" and 5-10/hpf are small amounts, and they can be present in a normal urine. "Trace" bacteria, also, can be found in a normal urine. Your doctor should have done a urine culture, which should tell with much more certainty, if you had a UTI. The culture would grow out the bacteria responsible for the infection (if any). Check with your doctor on this, especially if you're still having symptoms.
