QuestionHello and thank you very much for taking my question.
I had routine blood work done recently and my follow up appointment is still two months away. Being a diabetic and on statins, I worry about kidney and liver damage. Are the following results anything to be concerned about?
Creatinine,Serum Low 0.5 (ref range 0.6-1.3)mg/dL
BUN/Creat 34.00 (ref range 6.00-25.00)
ALT 75 High(ref range 9-52) U/L
AST 50 High(ref range 10-43) U/L
Everything else was within normal range, including BUN of 17 (ref range 7-25) mg/dL and cGFR >90 (ref range >60) mL/min/1.73 m^2
Thank you!
AnswerThe creatinine/bun is OK
The liver being slightly elevated... it could mean your statin is elevating it, however diabetics sometimes will have elevated liver enzymes from other causes... if your liver tests, alt, ast were normal prior to statins, we have to attribute it to the statins and find another alternative.....
