Understanding Urine Analysis Results: Trace, Few, Moderate & Many

Question
I am trying to determine what quantities fall under the
category "Trace", "Rare" "Few" and "Many" for the testss for
Leuk esterase, bacteria, ketone and protein counts in a UA?
I have a mix of quantified results by number, so some say,
"1+ ketone" while others write, "few". I can't seem to find
which categories align with which numbers. thanks!

Answer
Hi Cal.  There's really not a definitive answer to your question.  The terms, "trace", "few", "moderate", "many", "1+", "2+", "3+", etc. are not defined anywhere.  A machine will read the urine sample via a dipstick that is inserted into the urine sample, and the machine will only give those results as a guide to the technician performing the test.  When a urine meets certain criteria, then the technician will look at the urine sample under a microscope and will use the same terms, "few", "many", etc. to give a general number.
Hope this helps!
