Gel vs. Acrylic Nails: A Comprehensive Comparison

Question
Can you tell me the difference between gel and acrylic nails?  Which do you prefer?  I have had both and like to keep my nails fairly short.  Everyone is getting the gel where I come from because they say it is "better" for you.  Any advice?

Answer
Hi Stephanie,
The primary difference between UV Gel and standard Acrylics is only the method of application.  They are in actual fact BOTH acrylics, just in different forms.  One pre-mixed (the uv gel) and one that is mixed only just prior to application (standard liquid & powder acrylic aka "L&P").
NEITHER one is better than the other.  NEITHER is damaging to the nails as some techs might have you believe.  There is NO SUCH THING as gel being 'better for you.  This is a sale's scam.
I personally prefer UV Gel because it's odorless and I work from home.  While there is much more that can be done with L&P.

My best advice is that you read this page on my site and be sure that you & your friends etc are not being scammed by local discount salons that may be NSS.  A common scam is pushing clients to get 'gel' which is more expensive BUT they aren't even applying UV Gel, they're only putting cheap toxic quality of L&P acrylic with a sealant over top.
Cheap acrylic contains MMA which is highly toxic and can cause birth defects etc.
PLEASE read this page thoroughly and be sure to share it with friends.
