Understanding Low Lymphocytes, High WBC & Neutrophils: Causes & Concerns

Question
I am a 27 year old healthy male. I recently went into ER for food poisoning, I was diagnosed with Gastroenteritis.

I asked Doctor about low numbers and he was not concern and said it was due to infection.

WBC 13.27 (4.00 X 10.80) HIGH  (5 months go my WBC was 8.3 witohut infection)
Neutrophils 84.3 (48.0-76.0) HIGH
Lymphs 8.7 (18.0-50.0) LOW

After seeing these numbers should a MD or PA be able to diagnose me with Lymphocytopenia and elevated Nuetrophils. I fear leukemia and lymphoma. Should I be concerned?

Answer
Hi David, I'd be glad to try and answer your question.  I do agree with the doctor on this one.  Your numbers do indicate an infection.  If you're still concerned, you could check with your regular doctor and have him/her do a repeat CBC to make sure those results have returned to normal, after you've recovered from the infection.
