Understanding Persistent Blood in Urine: Causes & Military Concerns

Question
I've had 5 urine tests in the last 15+ months.  4 of those 5 tests have come back with at least traces of blood in my urine.  I'm a soldier in the military stationed in Iraq and the doctors here seem more interested in keeping their numbers high here than giving the soldiers the medical attention they need.  In February 2003 I fell on ice and was diagnosed with a bruised kidney, but returned to duty 2 weeks after that.  Is it possible I'm still having problems from my fall?

Answer
I doubt it.  With persistent hematuria (blood in urine) you should at the minimum have an IVP (intravenous pyelogram) and cystoscopy- scope looking in the bladder or have dye shot up a catheter into the bladder and xrays done to look for problems.  The fall should long have healed, and the blood may indicate other problems, like a kidney stone (even without pain) or cysts, etc.

Hope this helps...
