Ovulation Chart Analysis & Fertility Concerns - NuvaRing & Cycle Tracking

Question
Hi Dr.Edward I've been trying to conceive for 5 years now and I just started charting my cycles this is also my first complete cycle of the nuva ring.My question is am I ovulating here is my chart...
http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/216f39

I was only on the nuva ring for 2 months because the only time i got pregnant(in 06 ended in miscarriage) was when i was on the nuva ring for 2 months then i came off and ovulated 2 weeks later.I decided to do it again...fastforward to today and I'm on cycle day 55 no period or high temps at all my temps haven't went over 97.7 and I'm on cd 55.so right now I'm waiting for ovulation but since I'm new to this charting thing can you please read my chart and tell me what you think?

I thought i had thyroid issues because of all those low temps but i got checked and everything was fine.
oh i also use a ovulation scope (saliva)
please let me know
thanks

Answer
Dear TTC,

Thank you for the question.  Could you please let me know where you are writing from?

First of all, if you have not seen a reproductive specialist, you need to.  We recommend a complete evaluation after 1 year of trying to get pregnant.

Second, the Nuva ring will throw off your BBT, so it is not valid.  You have to be on a natural cycle in order to plot your BBT.  The fact that you got pregnant after the Nuva ring the last time was just coincidence.  I would not rely on it.

In terms of timing, you can certainly continue to plot your BBT, but I have always found that to be a big hassle for patients.  An ovulation kit works better, although it is more expensive.  I use the calendar method if my patient has regular cycles.  Basically, I have them start counting from the first day of their period.  That is cycle day # 1.  On cycle day # 10 they stop having recreational intercourse.  They resume intercourse, once per day, one ejaculation only per event, on cycle day # 13 and continue daily until cycle day # 17.  After day 1Edward J. If you are irregular, then you should be on medication to make your ovary ovulate regularly.  It would be very very difficult to get pregnant with irregular cycles because it is not predictable and because your ovary is not functioning normally.

I hope this answers your questions.
