QuestionHello Doctor,
I had my day 3ET(3 embryos) on 12/22/08. On 12/31, I had brown spotting and was told to take Beta HCG on 01/01/09. The result was 8. For 2 days from 01/01/09, I had slight bleeding for 2 days. My doctor told me to take it again on 01/06/09 and the result was 164. So, my doctor said it is positive. Again I was told to repeat it on 01/10/09 but the result showed 111.5
Again my doctor told to repeat the test on 01/13/09. Iam keeping my fingers crossed. Is it possible for the HCG level to decline? Is there any medicines to boost up the HCG level? Iam using Gestone three times a day. Please advise. Thanks.
AnswerHello Amirtha,
BHCG levels should not decline. The fact that it did is a sign that the pregnancy is abnormal. It is most likely that it will end in a miscarriage. The other possibility is that there is an ectopic pregnancy or tubal pregnancy, so your doctor needs to rule that out by following your levels. There is no way to "boost" BHCG levels. It is a function of a developing embryo/fetus. Going down is not a good sign. But there are always exceptions so we will just have to wait and see for now.
