IVF Cycle Timing After Hysteroscopy: What You Need to Know

Question
Hello Again,

My RE recently discovered a polyp in my uterus and so I am scheduled for Hysterscopy next week to remove the polyp. I was wondering how long should I wait for my ivf cycle after Hysteroscopy? Can I start ivf in the next cycle when I get my first period after Hysteroscopy? I am expecting my next period 16 days after hysteroscopy.

Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Illinois from the U.S.,

Normally, you don't have to wait long to do an IVF cycle after a hysteroscopy.  One or two weeks is sufficient.  However, if your doc does a lot of surgery to remove the polyp, such as a D%26C, then you should wait 6-8 weeks for the uterus to recover fully.  This is a question that you should direct to your doctor because I am sure he/she will have his/her preferences.
