Trying for Baby #2: Infertility After Childbirth - Is It Normal?

Question
Hi,

I delivered my first daughter on July 2006 and I'm trying for my second one now. I've tried since Oct 2008 but luck is still not on my side. I have charted my ovulation and have tried having intercourse on day 11, 13, 15 and 17th. I have regular cycle.

My question: Can either me and my hubby become infertile after we have delivered our first baby? The previous time, I got conceive after 2 cycles. Why is it takes me so long now?

Answer
Hello,

It is normal for it to take up to a year to conceive, even if it didn't take you as long the first time.  Most doctors will not do infertility testing until you've been trying for at least a year.  So after next October, I would then seek a doctor's help if you still are not pregnant.  Sometimes it takes longer, even if there are no issues.  Your age can also be a factor.  Good luck.
