Clomid Ovulation & Timing: What Happens with Delayed Cycles?

Question
I was started on Provera after my cycle being a month late.  I started spotting 3 days after my last pill.  I was then told to start Clomid on days 5-9 at the first sign of bleeding.  I started to spot, and called my doctor who said to consider the spotting CD1.  I started the Clomid on the 5th day of spotting.  Two days after I finished my last Clomid pill, I had my full flow start that lasted 6 days, so basically my doctor had me take the Clomid when I was spotting only and to our surprise my cycle started after I finished the Clomid.  What are the odds that I will ovulate with this round of Clomid since my cycle days were misscaculated?

Answer
Hello Courtney from the U.S.,

I am sorry for the delay in this answer.  I left to go to a meeting, and although I completed all the questions before I left, but apparently some were posted after I left.  I did not have access to email at my meeting.

I know that time has passed since your question, but this cycle is probably out.  The ovary sets up for ovulation within the first 5 days of the cycle.  Most than likely, the spotting was not the beginning of the cycle, but the flow was.  I advise my patients to start counting from the first day of flow.  In order for Clomid to work to enhance your ovulation, it has to be started within that 5 day period.  Otherwise, your natural system will take over and control the ovarian function.

I hope that answered your question.
