Clomid & Pregnancy Tests: Understanding Delayed Results & Next Steps

Question
Hi, I have been on clomid 50mg for 4 months. Usually my cycle is 30 days. At this stage I am two weeks over due for my period. At for days overdue I had a blood test which was negative. I have also done a urine home pregnancy test yesterday which was negative. The docter has told me that on clomid it can take longer to show a positive result. Is this the case and should I have another blood test(and when) to recheck levels?
Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hello Yvonne from Australia,

Your doctor is WRONG!  If the clomid worked correctly, and you ovulated, and if a pregnancy occurred, you should be able to detect it at 10 days post ovulation at the earliest.

One problem with Clomid is that it can lead to a cyst formation due to the lack of ovulation of a pre-ovulation follicle.  That will then inhibit the menses from starting.

If you want, you can certainly take another blood test to confirm.

Good Luck,
